What’s Your Bridal Bouquet Style?

Updated: Jan 11, 2022

Believe it or not, all bridal bouquets are not made equally. There are many different styles and techniques that go into creating the bouquet that goes down the aisle with you.

Knowing the style you prefer is helpful when trying to convey your vision to your florist or floral designer. So let’s get into the six most common bouquet design styles.

Round Bouquet

The round bouquet is probably the most known of all the bridal bouquets. It’s simple, elegant and traditional. It can be designed either as a tight cluster to create density or loosely to create a light and airy feel. You can choose the formality of this bouquet by the types of flowers you choose to include. This type of bouquet style pairs well with all weddings dress styles.

Cascade Bouquet

The cascade bouquet is the most traditional and formal bridal bouquet style. It was originally known as the “shower bouquet”. It is designed to cascade/spill downward gracefully over your hand to create a sophisticated and stylized look. It starts out round at the top and narrows at the bottom. Any type of flower can be used in this bouquet style but it is most commonly adorned with cascading orchids or calla lilies.

Nosegay Bouquet

The nosegay bouquet is designed as a compact cluster of flowers that are tightly wrapped with either a satin or organza ribbon. The stems are cut to one uniform length and traditionally contains more greenery than other bouquets. It is one of the most commonly used bouquet styles and is popularly used in smaller arrangements as bridesmaids bouquets.

Posey Bouquet

The posey bouquet is the smallest of all of the bouquet styles. It is designed in a small round shape and is commonly used by both brides and bridesmaids. You can include a wide range of flower types and colors in this bouquet to create a loose arrangement that is hand tied with a satin ribbon.

Pomander Bouquet

The pomander bouquet is a good way to include ordinary or less expensive flowers. It is also known as the “kissing ball” since it is literally the form of a ball shape suspended from a loop of ribbon. It’s a great bouquet for flower girls who aren’t old enough to toss petals along the aisle.

Pageant Bouquet

The pageant bouquet is a great alternate if you are planning a more modern wedding. It’s referred to as an “arm sheath” bouquet since it uses long stem flowers and green foliage that are cradled in the arms. Commonly used flowers in this bouquet are calla lilies, orchids and long-stemmed roses. They can be moderately arranged or designed elaborately to create a dramatic look down the aisle.
